1890 In the Philippines

The controversial Noli Me Tangere was published.

Through it all, there was one brand that the Spanish revered – San Miguel Pale Pilsen. It captured the heart of the colonizing Spaniards, beer-wise.

It All Started
in 1890

On October 4, Don Enrique Barreto inaugurated La Fabrica de Cerveza de San Miguel at 6 Calzada Malacanang.

1895 In the Philippines

FIRST PHILIPPINE MUNICIPAL ELECTION

Speaking of titles, the Philippines had its first Municipal Election. The law changed the title of Chief Executive of the town from Gobernadorcillo to Captain Municipal.

San Miguel Pale Pilsen was given the title Pride of the Pacific at the Philippine Regional Exposition.

1913 In the Philippines

While San Miguel Pale Pilsen was making a commercial deal with the foreigners in its exporting pursuit, the country was making a different deal with the foreigners.

Philippines succeeded in a peace negotiation which ended a 14-year Moro Rebellion – an armed conflict between Moro Indigenous ethnic groups and the United States Military which took place in Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan.

1913

The year San Miguel Beer started exporting to Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Guam.

1967 In the Philippines

The boom of the TV generation also reflected the nation’s pursuit of broader influence.

Philippines became part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. ASEAN aims to accelerate growth and promote peace among its members.

The nation saw San Miguel Pale Pilsen’s first TV endorsers: Pugo, Patsy, Babalu and Cachupoy.

The ad featured how it was “great to relax” with San Miguel Pale Pilsen in the company of these Filipino comedians.

1973 In the Philippines

Our favorite sport also left a global mark as the 1973 Asian Basketball Confederation Championship were held in Manila.

The Philippines got a gold medal with a record of 10 wins, no losses.

In response to the crying need for more and more San Miguel, the company focused its effort to improve not just its home front but also the neighboring markets.

In turn, sales exceeded a billion pesos for the first time and profits topped the hundred-million-peso mark.

2014

San Miguel Pale Pilsen was once again given the Gold Medal Award by the Monde Selection International Institute for Quality Selections.

It has been consistently winning gold medals since 1981.

2015

For the 3rd straight year, San Miguel Pale Pilsen won the Gold Quality Award, earning itself an International High Quality Trophy for the feat.
